Project name: Accreditation of master study programme Precision Farming
Call title: National recovery and resilience
Registration number: NPO_ČZU_MSMT-16607/2022
Annotation: Precision agriculture is a long-standing term for modern approaches in plant and animal production management respecting the natural variability of the production environment and trying to respond to it. It is a typical interdisciplinary field combining a wide range of state-of-art knowledge from both technical and biological sciences. In the last decade, the whole agricultural production sector has been marked by growing demands on the level of education of its employees, particularly with respect to constantly growing demands imposed by the introduction of modern technologies within the framework of digitalization and automation of production processes. The technologies comprising the 4th industrial revolution are being reflected in the agricultural sector under the general term Agriculture 4.0, which can be defined as the application of a higher degree of automated production units, robotics, and digitalisation. This can be called Precision Agriculture.
The project is aimed at creating a study programme in Precision Agriculture and at its deployment in teaching at the CZU when successfully accredited. The design of the Master's degree programme is to provide engineering university education in the field of precision farming technologies within the framework of plant and animal production, mechanization of agricultural production including IT issues and principles of Big Data processing. The programme is aimed at acquiring theoretical knowledge and practical skills within the framework of the scientific disciplines that enable understanding the interactions of principles of machines and sensors with data acquisition, processing, and evaluation systems in relation to biological and technological processes in plant and animal production. Graduates of this study programme will be experts with the ability to use their knowledge to tackle the issues of agriculture, mechanisation, and IT applications. The above project will also facilitate the equipment of specialised laboratories for teaching students in the field of smart farming in such a way that students can get acquainted, during their study, with the latest technical means for automation and digitalization of processes in agriculture. Thanks to its comprehensiveness, the proposed study programme can be included in progressive disciplines, namely Digital Technologies, Technology and Engineering, and Environmental Quality. The solution will be participated in by the following faculties: the Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Economics and Management and the Faculty of Agrobiology, Food and Natural Resources.
