EDURO team from CULS Faculty of Engineering

The 2014 edition of the Field Robots Event was organised by the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany, in the framework of the DLG-Feldtage agricultural fair in Bernburg-Sternzenfeld. The event took place from 17 to 19 June 2014, with 23 registered field robot teams from 9 European countries (i.e. Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, UK, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Spain and Turkey). This year’s field robot competition had five disciplines. In the first three disciplines field robots had to move independently within plant rows in a corn field, and simultaneously perform several prescribed activities. The fourth discipline focused on the interaction between field robots and their command stations. Finally, the fifth discipline, called Free Style, demonstrated the capacity of field robots to perform practical task related to regular field work.

Students from CULS Prague Faculty of Engineering, with their field robot EDURO, won the overall 1st and 2nd place (together with the German made field robot PHAETHON), and thus confirmed their position of favourites from the past years (CULS field robots ranked overall 2nd in 2010 and 4th in 2012). Field robots constructed by students from CULS Faculty of Engineering were usually best in the competition category “Professional Tasks”.

“Robotics is becoming increasingly present in our modern day lives and is becoming very useful in agriculture and crop production too. Our engineering skills at CULS Prague are very much in line with this trend”, said Associate Professor Milan Kroulik, field robot team coordinator at CULS Faculty of Engineering. CULS Rector, Professor Jiri Balik, commended the success of our robotics team, and wished the students a lot of success also in future events.
